Cannes Jewelley Heists!

Cannes, well-known for it's annual film festival which attracts an array of celebrities, is on the other hand, becoming highly notorious for it's jewellery heists. Investigators from Nice reported a theft from a jewellery exhibition in Cannes. An armed man stole jewellery on display worth about £40 million. The armed gunman evaded security at the Carlton hotel, where the exhibition was being held. Hotels near the Boulevard de la Croisette have become increasingly notorious for such thefts.
During this year's two-week Cannes film festival, a strongbox containing jewellery made by Swiss jeweller Chopard worth about £1 million was stolen from a hotel safe in the Suite Novotel. A few days after, a diamond necklace amounting to £1.9 million was carried off from the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc. In the biggest burglary in recent years in France, three men stole jewellery with an estimated worth of €85 million was stolen in 2008. That's the best available example for opportunistic grabs.
