The annual Indian Grand Prix held at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida has been suspended for 2014 by Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone. Two years, after the inaugural Indian GP, the FIA cancelled the races in 2013 as well as 2014. The reason being cited is the inconvenience caused due to the race being held in October. The inaugural GP was held on October 30, 2011 as the 17th race in the F1 calendar year. However, as the Indian GP was initially intended to be in the month of March, but it did not happen so. The Indian GP promoters Jaypee Sports International said that they were committed to continuing the Grand Prix. However, it was cited that there were financial hurdles like taxation to overcome.
Currently, about 22 races are jostling for berths in the F1 calendars. The Russian GP at Sochi and a Grand Prix at New Jersey are the two newbies to be added to the calendar in 2014, also including the Austrian GP making a comeback after 11 years of absence. Regardless of the axe, Bernie confirmed that Indian GP will return in 2015 again. Teams are requesting for a maximum of 20 races per annum, so it will be eventually a rat race amongst the different circuits all over the world.
